Abstract

Objective: To analyze and interpret the daily life of families with adolescent children, living in Recife, Pernambuco, during the physical separation period, stipulated by the Government of the State of Pernambuco. Methods: Qualitative research, carried out between February and October 2020, through video calls or telephone calls, with 23 members of ten families, ten of whom were adolescents of both sexes, aged between eleven and eighteen. The empirical material was analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Two thematic categories emerged, family responsibility: nutrition and adolescence; health risks: sedentarism associated with social distance. It was evidenced that physical distance favored the increase of parents' tolerance regarding the time their children were exposed to screens. In addition, parents also influenced the practice of unhealthy eating habits among adolescents and the manifestation of changes in the behavior of their children. Conclusion: Thus, structure, composition and communication and, consequently, family interaction, are components that are directly articulated with eating habits and sedentary behaviors by adolescents. A multiprofessional intervention and continuous monitoring of the development and return of adolescents to face-to-face activities are essential.
