Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical-epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized with COVID- 19 in na emergency hospital. Methods: This is an individual, observational, cross-sectional study with convenience sample. We analyzed the presence of diabetes, mortality by age group, need for hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), mortality by length of stay in the ICU, need for Orotracheal Intubation (OIT), mortality by days of OIT, need for Vasoactive Drugs (VAD). Results: Diabetic patients had a higher ICU admission rate (76.8%) than non-diabetic patients (NDM) (56%), higher OIT need (39.5%) compared to NDM (33.4%), higher VAD need (42%) than NDM (34.41%). In addition, diabetic patients had worse outcomes after admission to the ICU. It was found that the amount of altered blood glucose during hospitalization is directly related to higher admission to ICU beds, need for OIT and death. Conclusion: It is concluded that the presence of diabetes and poor glycemic control before and during hospitalization are related to worse outcomes.
