Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the performance of adiposity indices - body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist height ratio (WHR) and a body shape index (ABSI) - to discriminate chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out with data obtained from the 2013 National Health Survey, considering laboratory measurements, and measured anthropometric indices. Among the parameters evaluated to test the performance of adiposity indices in discriminating CKD (glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml/min/1.73 m²) are areas under the curve (AUC) ROC with respective confidence intervals (95% CI) and Youden indices. Analyzes were carried out on the total sample and stratified by sex and age group. Results: Adiposity indices (BMI, WC, WHtR and ABSI) showed discriminatory power at random for CKD in the total sample and when stratified by sex and age group, but WHtR demonstrated better performance in relation to AUC in all analyzes (0.653 in total sample, 0.663 in males, 0.649 in females, 0.606 in adults and 0.549 in the elderly). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that adiposity indices have a low discriminatory power of the ERC, even when significant.
