Abstract
Objective: To describe the practice experienced by dental surgeon in the implementation of the oral hygiene protocol for hospitalized patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a pediatric hospital in the State of Amazonas. Experience report: This is an experience report developed by a student of the Graduate Program in Health Sciences at the Federal University of Amazonas. Through the offer of a theoretical-practical course aimed at health professionals who work in the two ICUs of the hospital, the protocol of oral preventive measures was presented and implemented in order to promote the effective control of oral biofilm in infant patients and decrease the risk of developing nosocomial pneumonia, which is a serious public health problem. Final considerations: Prior planning of the course and knowledge of the environment and work routines would be essential for the adherence of professionals to the proposed oral hygiene protocol, as well as the offer of moments of group discussion.
