Abstract
Objective: To report the use of the Padovan® Method in children with microcephaly caused by zika virus, attended at the School of Physical Therapy at Estácio-FMJ. Methodology: This is a retrospective, descriptive study of a quantitative approach. Patients used the Padovan® Method as a form of treatment. We analyzed 9 children with a diagnosis of microcephaly by Zika virus, of which 4 (44.4%) were female and 5 (55.6%) were male. All patients received the Padovan ® Method twice a week. The data evaluated were: Physical Therapy Assessments, Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS), evolutions described by the therapists, data such as: age, sex, symptoms, presence of comorbidities and numbers of visits. Student t-test was used for statistical analysis. The study was approved by the research ethics committee. Results: The Padovan® Method was beneficial to our patients by reducing dysphagia, bronchial aspirations, spasms, helping to roll, crawl and sit. Conclusion: In view of the good evolution of the patients, the relation of the method and the stimulus to neuroplasticity is seen, being an important cerebral phenomenon to acquire lost or never acquired functions and more studies must be carried out to affirm the Padovan Method as neuro-rehabilitation therapy.
