Abstract
Objective: To carry out a review based on updated scientific evidence on tooth bleaching concomitant with orthodontic treatment. Methods: The present study is an integrative review and for the working instrument the following steps were created and followed: elaboration of the guiding question, search or sampling in the literature, data collection, critical analysis of the included studies and discussion of the results. Subsequently, a search was carried out on the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “Tooth bleaching”, “Orthodontics”, “Dental aesthetics” using the Boolean operator AND, in the PUBMED, LILACS and MEDLINE databases via VHL with the following combinations: “Tooth bleaching” AND “Orthodontics”, and “Tooth bleaching” AND “Orthodontics” AND Dental aesthetics. Results: The search in the databases resulted in a total of 209 articles found, of which 99 were excluded due to repetition, following the first exclusion criteria. For the second exclusion of articles, 58 articles were included. For the third exclusion, those that were completely related to the topic and only about tooth whitening were included, therefore, 27 articles were actually included for the development of this work. Final Considerations: There is still a lot of controversy regarding whitening treatment during orthodontic treatment, and it still requires a lot of studies and tests.
