Abstract

Objective: To outline the epidemiological profile of neonatal jaundice in newborns in a low-risk maternity hospital from 2016 to 2021. Methods: This study was carried out through field research with a qualitative, descriptive approach. The study consisted of 98 medical records, obtained from the hospital's HR department. To obtain the data, we chose to use an instrument for data collection. The analysis of the questions was carried out through an individual evaluation of each medical record and categorized by questions and results shown in graphs. Results: Among the factors presented in the questionnaire, the ones that stood out the most were: the lack of information on both maternal and neonatal data that were not included in the medical record, the incompatibility of information constituted a major challenge in identifying the main causes and risk factors for the occurrence of neonatal jaundice. There is a higher prevalence of jaundice in females, the treatment carried out was phototherapy. Conclusion: They show the importance and need for a good evaluation, a good physical examination to avoid aggravating and triggering a greater risk factor, as well as the complications of untreated jaundice and the main nursing care in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of jaundice.
