Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical-cognitive profile of patients treated at a neurology outpatient clinic. Methods: This is an analytical, cross-sectional, single-center, quantitative study of 20 patients with a history of stroke who spontaneously sought care at the outpatient clinic. The patients underwent a General Assessment/Anthropometry and a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Results: The data showed that 55% of the patients were male, with an average age of 71.15 years and a maximum of 3 strokes per person. The Waist to Hip Ratio showed a higher cardiovascular risk for women, while for men, attention was paid to 3 patients who were obese, configuring a potential risk for the occurrence of new episodes. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity, as well as a high incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, pathological entities linked to greater vascular fragility. Regarding the interpretation of the MMSE, a higher score was obtained among those with more schooling, highlighting that among the group with 1-4 years of schooling, 50% of the patients scored zero, due to the sequelae of stroke. Conclusion: There is a need to encourage new studies that assess clinical and cognitive profiles with a local focus, enabling more reliable comparative analyses.
