Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge about toxoplasmosis on the part of pregnant women, its relationship with sociodemographic aspects and the impact of lack of knowledge on preventive behavior. Methods: Encompasses an integrative review, using the Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS) and MEDLINE via PubMed databases, during the period from January 2019 to March 2024. The descriptors used were: “Knowledge”, “Toxoplasmosis” and “Pregnancy”. Furthermore, the Boolean operator AND was used to cross-reference the descriptors. Results: The final sample consisted of 10 (ten) articles, which showed that the majority of pregnant women do not have basic knowledge about congenital toxoplasmosis, or were even unaware of the disease, and were still unable to clearly recognize the means of transmission. and actions to prevent this pathology. Furthermore, it was identified that factors such as the number of pregnancies and sociodemographic aspects impact the knowledge of these pregnant women about the disease. Final considerations: The level of knowledge about congenital toxoplasmosis is insufficient for pregnant women to adopt effective prevention measures, requiring health education actions, prioritizing women with a low educational level and first-time pregnant women.
