Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impact of environmental and health factors on the Brazilian indigenous population in recent years. Literature review: Environmental and indigenous health risk factors in Brazil are characterized by demarcation or delimitation processes in the face of sociocultural, economic and environmental specificities with repercussions of impact on health and morbidity and mortality indicators compared to the non-indigenous population. Some pertinent factors, such as the impact of malaria, cardiovascular risks, responses to hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and COVID-19 on indigenous peoples, point to significant information on how these environmental and health factors specifically affect indigenous longevity. Final considerations: The field of environmental scientific evidence and the current health situation in the Brazilian indigenous population favors the understanding of the impacts that these factors have on the quality of life and social situation in which they are subjected. It is relevant to emphasize the greater negative impact on Brazilian indigenous health, in relation to the non-indigenous population. Serving, in this way, as subsidies for the implementation of more research and definition of alternatives to reduce the aggravating factors on this population.
