Abstract
Objective: To investigate the use of aspirin in the secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction. Methods: This is an integrative review, with articles published between 2019 and 2024 in Portuguese, English and Spanish and with the content available in full. As a guiding question, the following was used: “Is the use of aspirin for secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction recommended?” The bibliographic research was carried out in the MedLine, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Science (LILACS), and Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences (IBECS) databases during the months of April and May 2024. the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “Aspirin”, “Infarction” and “Secondary Prevention” with the Boolean operator “AND”. Results: The 12 publications meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria reveal that the use of aspirin is recommended for secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction, together with P2Y12 inhibitors. Final considerations: The use of aspirin for secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction is essential and when associated with a P2Y12 inhibitor, it can enhance this protective effect for patients undergoing ICP.
