Abstract

Objective: To review the use of low-power laser therapy in neurosensory disorders in Dentistry. Methods: An integrative review of the PubMed database was carried out, resulting in 83 studies, of which 65 were excluded, resulting in 18 studies. Results: The majority of articles were produced in 2020, with a predominance of publications from Asia and Europe. Wavelengths ranged from 632.5 nm to 1064 nm, highlighting the use of infrared. The results were evaluated using the visual analogue scale and Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments. The most effective protocol for treating the inferior alveolar and lingual nerves was the use of infrared light at 830 nm; for the facial nerve, light at 810 nm, with a total dose of 324 J/cm² in 21 sessions. In therapy for trigeminal nerve disorders, the combination of red light at 618 nm with 75% ozone therapy promoted better healing and an increase in Schwann cells. Final considerations: Low-intensity laser therapy is an effective tool in the functional recovery of injured nerves, contributing to the regeneration and improvement of patients' symptoms.
