Abstract
Objective: To understand the functions and activities carried out by clinical trial coordinators in clinical research centers in Brazil. Methods: The research is based on the exploratory descriptive method, with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out from August 2022 to July with 44 clinical trial coordinators in Brazil. The content was analyzed and categorized according to content analysis in the thematic analysis modality. Results: It was found that 52.27% of clinical trial coordinators work in the Southeast region; 27.27% work in the South region; and the smallest group, with 2.27% of participants, is concentrated in the North region. The three most prominent areas of training in the survey were nursing and pharmacy, with 27.27% in each area, followed by biomedicine, with 8.18% of participants. Three thematic categories emerged: The role of the clinical trials coordinator; Management of the Research Center; Coordination of the clinical research protocol. Conclusion: The role of the clinical trial coordinator is complex and essential in the development of new therapies and it is necessary to define the work process and systematize the activities of this professional in the national context.
