Abstract

Objective: To investigate the information needs of children with cancer and their families during home/outpatient treatment. Methods: It is a field research, exploratory and descriptive, of a qualitative nature that was conducted in a support house for children with cancer. Data was collected using the story-drawing technique with the children, as well as semi-structured interviews with family members. The data was analyzed using the content analysis technique, with the help of iramutec® software to organize the data, resulting in classes covering the main concerns of the children and their families.  Results: The classes are distributed into five, with the most frequently cited words among the researchers, so classes 3 and 4, mainly presented the doubts and concerns of the mothers, classes 1, 2 and 5 encompass the children's speeches. The relationship between the hospital as a sad and boring place, where professionals don't answer the children's questions, don't ask if they're okay and the child's home as a place of happiness and friends. Conclusion: Understanding the main concerns during treatment will make it possible to build a prototype focused on providing educational information.
