Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the medicinal use of psychedelics and Cannabis in the treatment of symptoms of mental disorders, with emphasis on their potential as alternative therapies in patients with resistance to conventional treatments. Methods: Integrative literature review in PubMed Central (PMC), using the search strategy: ((Cannabis) OR (Psychedelics)) AND (Psychiatric disorders) AND (Therapeutic use). After the initial search, 680 studies were identified and submitted to selection criteria. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 15 articles were selected to compose this study. Results: The impact of psilocybin and MDMA in the relief of symptoms of depression and PTSD was analyzed, as well as the effects of CBD and THC in the management of anxiety and psychotic symptoms, in addition to exploring the main risks and adverse effects associated with the use of these treatments, comparing them with conventional therapies. Final considerations: The use of psychedelic substances, such as psilocybin and MDMA, has shown positive results in clinical practice, increasing the evidence that when used with conventional therapies they can bring many benefits to patients. However, it is currently a subject that is little documented. Therefore, continuous research is needed in order to standardize therapeutic approaches to ensure the minimization of adverse effects.
