Abstract

Objectives: To identify in the scientific literature the pathophysiology associated with the development of arrhythmias in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. Methods: Integrative literature review, with articles published between 2019 and 2023, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with full text available. The guiding question was elaborated according to the PICo structure: “What scientific evidence clarifies the pathophysiology of cardiac arrhythmias caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection in adult patients?”. The research followed the guidelines of the adapted Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, carried out in May 2024, and searches were carried out in the databases: National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “SARS-CoV-2”, “COVID-19”, “Cardiac Arrhythmias”/“Arrhythmias, Cardiac”, integrated using the Boolean operators “OR” and “AND”. The analysis was descriptive. Results: 11 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and made up the final research sample, which revealed biomolecular aspects associated with the development of arrhythmias in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Final considerations: It was identified that inflammatory and metabolic factors favor the development of arrhythmias in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.
