Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with congenital toxoplasmosis (CT) in the states of the Northern Region of Brazil from 2019 to 2023. Methods: Retrospective and descriptive research, using data from the National System of Notifiable Diseases to analyze CT notifications in the states of the Northern Region from January 2019 to December 2023, without the need for ethics committee approval. Results: A total of 3,094 cases of CT were reported in the period, 46.24% of the cases were confirmed, with a considerable number of records as ignored, mainly regarding the progression of the disease. Conclusion: The increase in CT notifications in recent years can be attributed to the inclusion of the disease as a compulsory notification, mandatory screening during prenatal care, and improvement of neonatal screening. The high rate of discarded cases indicates problems in distinguishing cases and in data collection. Public policies have been implemented to improve disease management, however, the Northern Region faces significant challenges related to information recording and diagnostic capacity, which compromises the effectiveness of current public health measures.
