Abstract

Objective: To analyze the use of herbal extracts in the healing of diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: Integrative review, carried out between November 2024 and January 2025. Clinical trials and quasi-experimental studies, carried out in humans, published between 2019-2024, in journals indexed in the Pubmed, WebOfScience and Scopus databases, in English and Portuguese, were included. The study selection phase was carried out in the Rayyan application (Rayyan Enterprises, USA). Results: 2,348 articles were found in the databases. However, after the selection, reading and eligibility phase carried out by the authors of this research, 5 articles were selected throughout this review. In general, the articles found that patients submitted to herbal extracts evolved with a reduction in the total wound area, reaching statistical significance in the pre- and post-therapeutic intervention evaluations, even when compared with measures already established in care. Final considerarions: In the observed studies, the use of herbal extracts favored the healing of diabetic foot ulcers. However, further studies are suggested with the aim of understanding the individual effects of each plant, their respective active ingredients, their doses and side effects.
