Abstract

Objective: Evaluate cephalometric and bad occlusion quantities of young patients, between 14 and 21 years old, aiming to correlate facial characteristics to bad occlusions. Methods: A cross-sectional, retrospective, quantitative and analytical study was conducted, whose data were collected through a form. Fifty-eight orthodontic documentation, study models, panoramic radiographs and teleradiographies were evaluated. The data were distributed in tables, descriptively, according to the absolute values and percentages. The chi-square statistical test (p<0.05) was applied. Results: Among the bad occlusions, the highest prevalence was dental crowding (20.4%); molar and canine key relationships showed higher prevalence for Class I (66.7% and 52.6%); in relation to facial patterns and profiles, the most prevalent were Standard I (53.5%) and convex profile (44.8%). Regarding cephalometric quantities, the majority remained in the standard, with the exception of ACF, ACFT and AFAM/AFAI. The correlations between angles and cephalometric measurements and bad occlusions showed significant associations, with the exception of ACFT and AFAI. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is a strong correlation between cephalometric and bad occlusions, and more research on this theme is needed.
