Abstract

Objective: To analyze the association of sociodemographic factors and dental access pattern with oral health literacy (OHL) of pregnant women treated in Primary Health Care (PHC). Methods: Cross-sectional study involving pregnant women treated in the PHC of a municipality in the metropolitan region of southern Brazil. Sociodemographic and economic conditions, dental access status and OHL were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Univariate and multiple Poisson regression analyses with robust variation ( α =0,05). Results: The absence of oral health teams (oHT) in the Public Health Unit  (PHU) was statistically associated with low OHL, regardless of other factors (PR = 1.306; 95%CI: 1.032–1.653), pregnant women with more than 01 year since the last dental appointment (PR = 1.297; 95%CI: 1.026–1.940) and single/widowed or separated women (PR = 1.338; 95%CI: 1.054–1.697) also showed a significant association with OHL. Higher education was a protective factor against low OHL (PR = 0.310; 95%CI 0.183–0.525) when compared to those who had the lowest education. Conclusion: OHL in pregnant women was associated with education, marital status and highlighting the presence of oHT in the PHU, evidencing the need for public policies aimed at expanding oral health coverage in PHC.
