Abstract
Objective: This study analyzes how communication in the preoperative team contributes to patient safety and surgical success, highlighting its impact on the understanding of the procedure, the role of nursing in risk prevention, and the importance of clear communication with the patient. Methods: The integrative literature review method was used. Articles published between 2014 and 2024 were selected from the PubMed, LILACS, BDENF, and SciELO databases, using standardized descriptors and the PICo strategy. The selection of studies followed rigorous screening steps by titles and abstracts, according to the research question. Results: The findings showed that consistent nursing practices and rigorous protocols, such as the checklist for safe surgery and the SAEP, are essential for protecting the surgical environment. The role of the nurse proved to be crucial in the coordination and supervision of patient safety, directly impacting the reduction of negative events and improving the quality of care provided. Final considerations: Practices in the pre- and post-surgical period were recognized as fundamental to preserving the sterility and effectiveness of procedures, highlighting the relevance of ongoing training and effective communication among the medical team.
