Abstract

Objective: To identify the epidemiological profile of reported cases of congenital syphilis in the city of Caxias do Sul/RS, from 2019 to 2024. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study based on secondary data analysis from DATASUS, referring to reported cases of congenital syphilis in Caxias do Sul during the period of 2019 to 2024. The information was organized into tables and analyzed using descriptive statistics, expressed in absolute and relative frequencies. Results: A total of 374 confirmed cases of congenital syphilis were recorded during the study period, with a predominance of male newborns (48.66%) and diagnosis made within the first six days of life (98.40%). Most mothers were aged between 20 and 29 years, and 88.77% had attended prenatal care. However, deficiencies in the quality of care and inconsistencies in data—such as a high rate of unreported education level and missing outcome records—highlight weaknesses in the notification system. Conclusion: The study revealed the persistence of congenital syphilis despite high prenatal care coverage, reflecting the need to improve care quality, ensure better completion of information systems, and strengthen prevention strategies and maternal-child health care.
