Abstract
Objective: Identify the leadership style and challenges of routine nursing from the perspective of nurses in a public hospital. Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive study conducted in a public hospital with the participation of 22 nurses (coordinators, routine nurses, and assistant nurses). Data were collected via Google Forms from May to June 2023. Results: The following leadership styles were presented: coaching, democratic, transformational and charismatic. The challenges included the categories "Misunderstanding of the role of the routine nurse in the institution" and "Difficulty in planning for Quality". Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to have a management strategy to overcome the challenges perceived by peers, to the detriment of the routine nurse's role as a new function in the organizational structure of nursing, as it may imply diverse leadership styles influencing behavior, decision-making and quality of care.
