Abstract
Objective: To compare digital radiographic techniques with conventional radiographic techniques in pediatric dentistry, demonstrating their importance in the diagnosis of pathological lesions and confirming the treatment performed. Method: Cross-sectional study of the semi-direct digital dental radiographic system. Children were allocated to 2 groups: Group 1 (G1) who were exposed to conventional periapical radiography with radiographic film, with the application of the parallelism radiographic technique, and Group 2 (G2) who were exposed to semi-direct digital radiography. Results: Radiographic repetition in both groups was due to the movement of the children during the incidence of radiation, with 7 and 8 years of age in both genders. The radiographic visualization of the structures with precision was significantly more expressive in G2, both in T1 and in T2 (p < 0.05). In G1, in T1, 62.8% (n = 22), and in T2, 65.7% (n = 23) of the radiographic images helped the evaluator to accurately determine the anatomy of the observed structures. Conclusion: The radiographic image obtained by digital radiography is clearer than the conventional one, enabling a more accurate diagnosis, since the image on the computer can be changed in color, contrast, size and the anatomical and pathological structures can be measured accurately.
