Abstract

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of health professionals regarding Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Methods: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach was conducted in eight Basic Health Units located in the municipality of Cajazeiras, in the state of Paraíba. Data collection was performed through semi-structured interviews with 14 health professionals between August and October 2024. Data analysis was based on the Collective Subject Discourse, a method that uses individual discourses to analyze key expressions (E-CH) to compose central ideas (IC), with the aim of recovering social representations (RS), while maintaining their individual and collective dimensions in close articulation. Results: Six Central Ideas were identified that dealt with the limitation of cytology in the accurate diagnosis of chlamydia; challenges for nurses in clinical management; strategies to combat chlamydia; approaches and distances regarding the symptoms of chlamydia; distortions about susceptibility to chlamydia and consequences of infection on women's health. Conclusion: Although health professionals have knowledge about chlamydia and its clinical management, there are difficulties related to diagnosis, treatment, and professional autonomy, especially among nurses.
