Abstract
Objective: To analyze the prevalence of infections caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 and 2, Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus and T. Pallidum, in addition to the sociodemographic profile and sexual behavior of the Venezuelan refugee population living in collective shelters in the city of Boa Vista, Roraima. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study, of a quantitative nature, involving 244 Venezuelan participants, regardless of gender, between 15 and 50 years old. Data and biological samples were collected at the Rondon 1, Rondon 5, and Pricumã shelters, between July and October 2024. Results: Among the 244 participants, 13.93% (n = 34) tested reactive for some Sexually Transmitted Infection, with the positivity rates for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus being 1.64% (n = 4), 10.25% (n = 25), 0% (n = 0), and 2.05% (n = 5), respectively. A statistically significant association was evidenced between non-heterosexuality and having an STI (p = 0.03723). All other associations tested were not statistically significant. Conclusion: It is concluded that the results obtained in this study revealed a significant prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in the Venezuelan population, requiring the adoption of public prevention policies aimed at this population group.
