Abstract

Objective: To present the main literary data about female body image formation. For this, an association between social variables with regard to gender, race and class was used to elaborate this narrative. Bibliographic Review: The elaborate symbolic construction on the body is related to the psychosocial, historical, cultural, political and economic aspects. Thus, the discourse disseminated by the media and social networks strengthens the cult of the idealized and utopian body image. These aspects lead specific social groups, such as athletes, women, blacks, people with disabilities, to a greater susceptibility to install and develop psychological and eating disorders, linked to self-perception. Final consideration: Body image is a phenomenon built through the groups of experiences that we share throughout our existence. Thus, factors such as age, biological gender, social gender, physical type, presence / absence of disability influence the construction of this perception.
