Abstract

Objective: To report a clinical case in which the apexification technique was employed for the management of a traumatized tooth with incomplete root development. Case description: A 9-year-old male patient (T.G.M.) presented to the Ana Lúcia Fecury Dental Clinic, CEUMA University, Imperatriz-MA campus, with a history of dental trauma. Comprehensive assessment, including medical history, extraoral and intraoral examinations, and radiographic analysis, was performed. The initial diagnosis was an uncomplicated crown fracture involving enamel and dentin of tooth #11. Following a subsequent traumatic episode, the diagnosis evolved to a complicated crown fracture involving enamel, dentin, and pulp tissue. Endodontic management was undertaken through apexification with calcium hydroxide. The treatment required a 10-month period of intracanal medication replacement until the formation of a complete artificial mineralized barrier at the apical third, after which follow-up was conducted. Final considerations: This case report demonstrates the clinical efficacy of apexification in the management of traumatized teeth with incomplete root development and reinforces the role of calcium hydroxide as the gold standard material for this procedure.
