Abstract

Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and laboratory factors associated with gestational syphilis cases in the Araguaia Paraense region between 2019 and 2023. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study was based on secondary data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN/DATASUS). A total of 1,083 pregnant women residing in the region with confirmed gestational syphilis were included. The variables analyzed were age group, race/skin color, education level, treponemal and non-treponemal test results, and year of notification. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, version 16.102.2 (Office 365), applying descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 893 cases of gestational syphilis were identified, showing a rising trend until 2022 and a slight decline in 2023. Most cases involved brown-skinned women (72%–78%), aged 20–39 years (56%–67%), and with low education levels (18%–27% with incomplete elementary education). Most tests were reactive, indicating high infection prevalence and good diagnostic coverage. Conclusion: The study demonstrated the persistence of gestational syphilis as an endemic condition associated with social vulnerability. The use of secondary data subject to underreporting was a limitation, highlighting the need for regional studies using primary data for more accurate analysis.
