Abstract
Objective: To gather scientific evidence on the knowledge and practice of healthcare professionals regarding Advance Directives (ADs) in the context of oncological palliative care. Methods: This is an integrative literature review with a descriptive approach, conducted through searches of scientific articles in databases published in the last ten years. The following descriptors were used: Palliative Care; Advance Directives; Oncology; Healthcare Professionals; Health Technology. The search terms were in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. The Ursi 2006 instrument and PRISMA 2020 were used to select the studies. Results: 285 articles were located in the databases. Of these, 19 articles were selected to compose the final sample, from which three categories emerged: The knowledge and limitations of healthcare professionals regarding ADs; Challenges for the implementation of ADs; and ADs and strategies for communication and health education. A limitation was the scarcity of scientific articles on the research topic. Final considerations: Advanced life support (AD) is not yet a common topic in oncology, and improvements in communication, team training, and organizational support are needed.
