Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between chronic musculoskeletal pain and perceived quality of life in older adults receiving primary health care, as well as the influence of biopsychosocial factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 144 older adults receiving care in Primary Health Care. Quality of life was classified as good or poor using the question from the World Health Organization for Quality of Life (WHOQOL-bref). Chronic musculoskeletal pain was indicated by the number of painful regions in the last three months. Personal, physical and mental health indicators, and contextual aspects were entered into blocks into the logistic regression model. Analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 22, with a significant level of 5%. Results: The mean number of body regions with chronic musculoskeletal pain was 3.15 (SD: 2.54). Poor quality of life was identified in 31.3% of participants. The number of regions with chronic pain was associated with poor quality of life, increasing the odds of this outcome by 79%. Chronic pain (OR: 0.796), Body Mass Index (OR: 0.921), depressive symptoms (OR: 0.787), and satisfaction with sleep (OR: 2.675) were associated with poorer quality of life, regardless of biopsychosocial factors. Conclusion: Chronic musculoskeletal pain is associated with poor quality of life independently of biopsychosocial aspects.
