Abstract

Objective: To analyze scientific evidence regarding the humanization of care in the perioperative period and its impact on the experience and recovery of surgical patients. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted in the SciELO, PubMed, and BVS databases, using descriptors related to humanization, perioperative period, and nursing. Articles published between 2001 and 2023, available in full text in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, were included. The selection followed previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were organized into a synthesis table and analyzed thematically. As this was an integrative review, submission to a Research Ethics Committee was not required. Results: The findings indicate that interventions based on therapeutic communication, welcoming practices, structured preoperative preparation, and the strengthening of the professional–patient bond contribute to reduced anxiety, improved pain control, and greater satisfaction with care. Furthermore, the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork and patient safety as complementary dimensions of humanized care is highlighted. Final considerations: Humanization is an essential strategy for enhancing the quality of perioperative care, fostering better clinical outcomes and a more positive patient experience.
