Abstract
Objective: To report the experience of a multidisciplinary educational intervention based on the operational group methodology, aimed at elderly individuals with Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Health Care. Experience report: The participants were organized into two groups and participated in five weekly meetings conducted by a multidisciplinary team (physician, nurse, nutritionist, physiotherapist, and psychologist). The meetings addressed topics related to diabetes management, using participatory methodologies, expository resources, and interactive dynamics. An improvement in knowledge about the disease, greater adherence to self-care practices, and a strengthening of the bond between users and the health team were observed, in addition to positive impacts on emotional and motivational aspects. Final considerations: The use of the operational group proved to be an effective and humanized strategy in health education, promoting autonomy, co-responsibility, and the collective construction of knowledge. Its incorporation into Primary Care practices is recommended, especially in the care of elderly people with chronic diseases.
