Abstract

Objective: To describe the effects of Punch Tape® in the treatment of fibrosis and adhesions in the postoperative liposuction. Description of the case report: A female patient, 25, performed liposuction in September 2013. At 6 months after the surgery, she observed the formation of adhesions and fibrosis in the abdominal region and she sought the surgeon for a revaluation. On the physical therapy assessment, it was observed the presence of fibrosis in the lateral regions and below the umbilicus characterized by visual perception of fibrosis in the upright position and decubitus. Aiming to improve tissue reorganization and promote proper realignment and direction of the healing process in the remodeling phase, the physical therapy procedures encompassed the use of techniques release manuals associated with the placement of elastic bandage type Punch Tape®, reapplied every 7 day for five sessions. At the end of treatment, it was observed the presence of fibrosis only by palpation. The patient also reported improved tissue mobility and visual appearance of the end of treatment. Conclusion: The results presented in this case study suggest that the use of neuromuscular bandage Punch Tape® type can be a practical alternative, safe and effective in the treatment of cicatricial changes.
