Abstract
Objective: To establish an analysis of the internship field carried out in a Reference School for Elementary and Secondary Education (EREFEM) in the city of Recife/PE, highlighting the challenges and main issues of teaching Sociology, as well as the socioeconomic and psychosocial conditions of the students. Experience report: The supervised curricular internship took place from April to August 2024, involving observations of the institution’s political-administrative and pedagogical structure, the social profile of the students, and the teacher responsible for the Sociology subject, with an evaluation of their teaching practices. Final considerations: It was found that the educational institution is welcoming and inclusive; however, students are inserted in a context of social vulnerability. Moreover, the teaching of Sociology requires adjustments in its conception and in the development of pedagogical practices, since methodologies are still based on uncritical and alienating lessons, which limit the potential for learning and the social transformation necessary for the development of sociological literacy.
