Abstract

Objective: Identify in scientific literature how Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) influences speech therapy practice in the teaching of skills in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods: This is an integrative literature review study in 3 (three) online databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS); Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) with descriptors and their combinations in Portuguese and English: (behavior analysis) (speech therapy) AND (autism spectrum disorder). Results: This review analyzed 7 articles that directly answered the guiding question, finding studies by researchers from Brazil, the USA, and Spain, mainly conducted in public hospitals. Most were published in international journals. The articles varied in design (cross-sectional, meta-analysis, case-control, case) and level of evidence (levels 1, 4, and 5). Final considerations: We conclude with this study that Applied Behavior Analysis has a positive influence on the speech therapy approach within the Autistic Spectrum.
