Abstract

Objective: To analyze the knowledge and behaviors related to sexuality and STI prevention among nursing students at a private higher education institution. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, employing a census sampling of nursing students. Thirty-nine students participated. Data collection was conducted via an electronic questionnaire on Google Forms and analyzed using an Excel spreadsheet. Results: Students considered their knowledge sufficient and demonstrated understanding of STI prevention strategies, recognizing condom use as the main method of prevention. However, gaps remain regarding knowledge of infections such as viral hepatitis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, and they accept as true information that are actually myths about transmission, while exhibiting risky behaviors such as discontinuing condom use in stable relationships. Most evaluate that the approach to the topic in undergraduate studies is insufficient. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is a need to strengthen health education in the academic environment through theoretical and practical strategies that expand training and contribute to more effective action in the prevention of STIs.
