Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of strategies to prevent melanoma skin cancer. Methods: The present study is a qualitative, retrospective and cross-sectional approach carried out through an integrative literature review. The databases used were the National Library of Medicine (Pubmed) and the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL). After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 14 articles were found. Results: Through the studies analyzed, it was observed that effective strategies consisted of providing educational material, training health professionals and presenting a photo-aged self-portrait. Total body mapping was competent in patients at high risk for developing melanoma and UV radiation exposure dosimeters did not obtain good results, which may be related to poor use of sunscreen. Final considerations: Therefore, prevention strategies must target information regarding the characteristics of melanotic lesions and risk factors. In addition to encouraging the reduction of sun exposure and the use of sun protection practices. However, it is necessary for health professionals to have knowledge about this topic.
