Abstract

Objective: To analyze the use of care indicators in Speech-Language Pathology services for monitoring dysphagic patients. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, retrospective, descriptive, and quantitative study based on electronic medical records of hospitalized patients and corresponding productivity spreadsheets from October 2022 to February 2023. Sociodemographic data and process indicators were analyzed using the Kappa test and IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0, with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: The study included 188 patients, of whom 59% were female, with a mean age of 52,25 years. It was observed that 25.5% underwent neurological surgeries, 12.2% had multiple diagnoses, 9.0% had digestive system surgeries, and 8.0% had urological surgeries. The swallowing evaluation index was 0.302, and the patient care index was 3.86. Initial risks of dysphagia (47.9%) and bronchoaspiration (44.1%) were significantly higher than final risks (29.8% and 26.1%, respectively) following speech-language therapy interventions. Conclusion: The results of this study reinforce the relevance of using care indicators for effective monitoring of dysphagia in a hospital environment, optimizing the rehabilitation process and quality care.
