Abstract

Objective: This report aims to inform the importance of Frey syndrome, indicating its etiology and characteristics necessary for a correct diagnosis. Methods: Diagnosis obtained through analysis of exams, interview with the patient, photographic records and review of the literature. Results: Frey syndrome (SF) is a disease characterized by gustatory perspiration and facial erythema throughout chewing. It results from a sequel in the parotidectomy or lesion of the parotid glands. Studies report that SF is based on the theory of erroneous recovery between the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems, pointing out as solutions therapeutic or surgical procedures. Although the majority of patients with SF have moderate symptoms, the apparent incidence of this syndrome after parotidectomy should be discussed with the patient before surgery in the parotid region. Conclusion: Finally, the importance of knowledge of SF is emphasized for an accurate diagnosis and a correct treatment.
