Abstract
Objectives: To identify in the literature the consequences of physical restraint in hospitalized elderly individuals and to map these repercussions with clinical indicators of nursing diagnoses from NANDA-I. Methods: Integrative review study whose focus was the comparison between the findings with the clinical indicators of nursing diagnoses. The data collection period was from April to May 2024. Results: After the initial screening of the literature, 79 studies that addressed the topic were identified, evaluated in full in a second stage, resulting in 23 publications. Results: Nine nursing diagnoses were found. “Impaired physical mobility” was considered a determining factor, given the fact that it occurs, according to NANDA-I, when there is an independent and voluntary limitation of the body, such as mobility restrictions. The defining characteristics of the diagnoses representing the consequences of physical restraint were established based on the mapping between literature findings and diagnostic elements contemplated in NANDA-I. Final considerations: It is necessary for nurses to pay attention to the improper use of restraints in elderly people, as well as to develop protocols to prevent and treat negative consequences related to this practice in the context of care.
