Abstract
Objective: To address therapeutic strategies in the management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The
focus of this work its the analysis of the impact of pharmacological therapeutic alternatives and lifestyle
changes in the treatment of this syndrome, elucidating which are the most adopted therapies, their effects and efficacies. Methods: This is an integrative review of articles from 2015 to 2020, whose purpose is to discuss the therapeutic arsenal in face of PCOS. Results: The first option to be indicated to all patients is to change their lifestyle, however, although it is essential, there are obstacles to the effectiveness of this modality due to the psychosocial variety of the women with this syndrome and the difficulty in adherence. In view of this, there is also a drug therapy that must be evaluated in conjunction with the patient's clinical and social reality. Conclusion: Lifestyle change is established as the first line of intervention for the treatment and management of PCOS, and should be prescribed and encouraged for all patients. However, there are limitations with regard to non-pharmacological interventions. That said, drug alternatives must be combined responsibly.
