Abstract

Objective: To analyze the incidence of hospitalizations and mortality due to Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the state of Rio de Janeiro and Vassouras. Methods: An observational and cross-sectional study was carried out, through data collection from the Rio de Janeiro State Health Department, between 2016 and 2020. Results: Higher incidence rate of hospitalizations (IHT) in Rio de Janeiro (48/100,000 inhabitants) and in Vassouras (71.1/100,000 inhabitants). In the analyzed period, the mortality rate (TME) was higher among women in the state and variable between the years in the municipality. The municipality showed an increase of 52.6% in IHT, while the state maintained IHT stable. The municipality showed a drop of 9% in TME and the state an increase of 11.2%. Conclusion: Given the above, it is necessary to invest in health promotion policies, especially in Vassouras, in order to reduce the complications of the disease and, consequently, hospitalizations.
