Abstract

Objective: To analyze the factors that have impacted the mental health of professional nurses, as well as the implications for nursing management generated by the pandemic. Methods: Systematic Review with PROSPERO registration number CRD42022330136. Studies that had the development of Burnout Syndrome (BS) and/or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety Disorder and Depression as an outcome were analyzed, using the MedLine databases via PubMed and SciELO, published between December 2019 and January 2022. Results: After applying the inclusion criteria, 9 studies were used in this review. Our results demonstrate that during COVID-19, nursing showed high levels of development of the analyzed variables. Conclusion: Nursing stands out in assisting and managing the fight against COVID-19, intensifying the emotional exhaustion of these professionals. Preventive interventions are necessary through the creation of organizational policies promoting stress management and the development of emotional intelligence tools by nursing managers as a way to reduce the emotional exhaustion caused by COVID-19.
