Resumen

Objetivo: Describir las características de la enfermedad por reflujo gastroesofágico (ERGE) con el fin de diagnosticar y tratar a los pacientes con esta enfermedad. Revisión de la literatura: la ERGE se define como el reflujo anormal de contenido gástrico hacia el esófago, que causa daño a la mucosa esofágica y/o síntomas de reflujo. La sintomatología es bastante variable, subdividiéndose en síntomas típicos y atípicos, pero clínicamente destacan los síntomas típicos de pirosis y regurgitación. En cuanto a la fisiopatología, la ERGE se caracteriza por ser una enfermedad multifactorial asociada a varios factores de riesgo. La complicación más importante es el esófago de Barrett. Consideraciones finales: La ERGE es la principal enfermedad presente en las consultas externas de gastroenterología. Se diagnostica a través de manifestaciones clínicas, sin embargo, algunas pruebas también pueden ayudar en el diagnóstico: endoscopia digestiva alta (EGE), pH esofágico de 24 horas e impedancia de la mucosa esofágica. Por ser una enfermedad multifactorial, su manejo se centra en cambios en el estilo de vida, tratamiento farmacológico y, en algunos casos, intervenciones más invasivas. Por tanto, el conocimiento sobre la ERGE es de suma importancia para que los profesionales, ante la enfermedad, realicen un correcto manejo, evitando complicaciones y peores desenlaces.
