Efeito das orientações de higienização, conservação e uso de prótese total em um grupo de idosos institucionalizados

Resumo
Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito das orientações de higiene, conservação e uso de próteses totais (PT) em um grupo de idosas institucionalizados. Métodos: Trinta idosos foram avaliadas antes (T0) e após 2 meses (T1) das orientações de higiene, por meio de um questionário contendo 26 perguntas agrupadas em 5 domínios: (1) dados sóciodemográficos; (2) frequência de visita ao dentista, tempo de uso, profissional que confeccionou e desconforto/incômodo com uso da prótese; (3) higiene bucal; (4) higienização da prótese e (5) conservação e uso da prótese. Resultados: A média de idade foi 71,4 ± 7,4 anos. A maioria dos participantes foi do gênero feminino (n=25; 83,3%), aposentado (n=26; 86,6%) e renda de até 1 salário (n=16; 53,3%). Mudança significativa de conhecimento e/ou comportamento foi observada após as orientações de higiene, conservação e uso, especialmente em relação a frequência de higienização da boca (p=0,016) e da prótese (p=0,008), método de higienização da boca (p=0,011) e da prótese (p=0,003), solução de imersão (p=0,002) e armazenamento da prótese para dormir (p=0,001). Conclusão: As orientações foram efetivas na mudança de conhecimento e/ou comportamento dos idosos, quanto a correta higienização da boca e da prótese, bem como nas melhores formas de conservação e uso da PT.
