Controle dos sintomas com idosos hospitalizados em cuidados paliativos: estratégia centrada na pessoa idosa

Resumo
Objetivo: Analisar o controle dos sintomas dos idosos hospitalizados em Cuidados Paliativos como estratégia para plano de cuidado multidisciplinar centrado na pessoa. Métodos: Estudo quantitativo, com 53 indivíduos, de ambos os sexos, idade igual ou superior a 60 anos admitidos na enfermaria de onco-hematologia. A coleta de dados foi dividida em três momentos para acompanhamento dos sintomas pela Escala de Avaliação de Sintomas de Edmonton (ESAS) com idosos internados até 96h na enfermaria e registros de evoluções em prontuários pelos profissionais para adequar as condutas de acordo com a sintomatologia. Foram utilizadas escalas de verificação em Cuidados Paliativos, Palliative Care Screening Tool (PCST) e Palliative Performance Scale (PPS). Resultados: Destacam-se três sintomas com maior frequência de relatos: dor (94%), mal-estar (92%) e fadiga (83%). Houve redução significativa nas médias dos escores da ESAS após aplicação de medidas de controle de sintomas pela equipe. Conclusão: Conclui-se que o gerenciamento dos sintomas de forma seriada temporalmente aliado ao plano de cuidados multiprofissional direcionou para uma avaliação fidedigna do idoso pela abordagem paliativa à medida em que a associação de um sintoma ao outro, permitiu a formulação de estratégias para manejo e controle dos sintomas de forma eficaz.
