Abstract

Objective: To understand teamwork with patient-centered care based on the interactions between managers, professionals and patients in the hospital context. Methods: Exploratory-descriptive, with a qualitative approach, carried out in a general public hospital in Bahia. Coordinators, supervisors, and care professionals who were members of the multidisciplinary teams were part of the research. The data were treated by Bardin's content analysis. Results: Three categories emerged from the analysis. They show that teamwork involves a more participatory leadership model, the integration of the entire team and the establishment of common goals for a collaborative practice, providing comprehensive care or patient-centered care. Conclusion: Teamwork had a positive impact on health services, when it brought characteristics related to the recognition of the attributions and work of professionals from different professions, sharing of values, effective communication and sharing of decisions. In addition, important elements were found that favor patient-centered care.
