Abstract

Objective: To describe effective strategies for preventing Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (ACS) in patients with abdominal trauma. Methods: This study is an integrative literature review, encompassing articles in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, published from 2018 to 2023, available in full. Thirteen articles were selected for analysis. Results: The studies highlight decompressive laparotomy as the central approach to treating ACS. The effectiveness of this surgical intervention is more pronounced when performed within the first 24 hours after the patient's admission, as it reduces intra-abdominal pressure, restores organ functions, and consequently, reduces mortality. Final considerations: Despite advances in the field, knowledge regarding the effectiveness of laparotomy in ACS patients is still limited, which is concerning due to the high mortality rate in cases of abdominal trauma. It is imperative to conduct further research for best practices and ACS prevention.
