Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the benefits of POCUS in the emergency department. Methods: This is a literature review, where Pubmed, Scielo and LILACS were used as research source, being chosen 7 out of the analyzed articles. Publications from the last six years that were related to the impact of using POCUS in emergency situations were included. Results: The use of POCUS proved to be useful in management and prognosis of the patient, however, in some cases it did not show any significant benefits, and in one study it showed damage during pulse evaluation in Cardiorespiratory Resuscitation (CPR). Conclusion: The use of POCUS has proven to be effective and safe when applied in a complementary or alternative way to the protocols already used in emergency hospitals. It's important to incorporate POCUS into a multidisciplinary approach to increase favorables outcomes. To make this happen, expanding the training of POCUS operators must be seen as fundamental in the academic education of physicians.
